I realize there is a gap between the law and its practice. Although the law exists, it is implemented poorly and makes life miserable for prisoners, including juveniles. As President of the Student Union Anjuman Talaba-e-Islam (ATI) in the Bahauddin Zakariya University, I was involved in all the academic activities. I got the opportunity to understand the students’ various problems, including their academic issues. For ten years, I have been an active social worker with different NGOs and, for four years, a legal practitioner in Karachi, which has taught me to believe in justice for all. I have organized and conducted focus group discussions on different legal issues as well as delivered lectures on parole, probation, arrest and bail. |
Activists of human rights have always fascinated me. In the agrarian environment where I was born, the society is strictly hierarchical. There was no rule of law and no concept of human rights. However, I was brought up with parents who taught me different norms, based on equality and justice. The nurtured my mind to respect human beings. This seed of respect for human rights has been germinating since then and later bloomed during my university days. |
The purpose of the foundation of LRF is to work for the promotion and protection of human rights, including the rights of children. All of the staff, together with the Board of Directors, is serving our purpose with hard work, dedication and idealism. |
LRF must ensure that the criminal justice system is cause for a better world. LRF is a very special institution, and I cherish my association with it. Its unrelenting commitment in promoting and protecting the rights for criminal justice has been inspirational. As Chairman, I have a rare privilege. I am blessed with the skills of leadership, managerial skills and good governance, which is why LRF was built on social foundations with unrelenting commitment. |
